Kallang city is located at the center of Singapore. The physical layout of the city puts it in an area around the kallang river which is the longest in Singapore. The city is bordered by Toa Payoh in the northern side. Geylang is set squarely on the Eastern side of the city. The southern east side of this city has Marine parade bordering it. Kallang city boarders Marina east in its southern side. The geographical setup of the city borders downtown core in its southwest. The history books highlight the major landmarks of this city that makes it a prime city. Some of these landmarks includes, the old National stadium, civil airport and the Kallang airport. It is clear that most of these landmarks are structured along the banks of Kallang’s River.
The modern days have Kallang as one of the most famous by the fact that it is home to Jalan Besar stadium. It also hosts Singapore sports Hub where the new National stadium is found. The stadium holds the Singapore indoor stadium as well. The year 2016 saw the new National stadium host the National day parade. Major world-class concerts have frequently been held in the Singapore indoor stadium. Worldly known artists have performed in these concerts in the recent past. The year 1830 saw the city appear in the Singapore’s survey map under the name Kilang. As time went by, the name was slightly changed to Kelang and later to Kallang which is the modern day’s name. The older versions of the city’s alternative names are still reserved up to date and are used in some instances. The history of Kallang city confirms that the name originates from old Malay which has a connection to a particular group known as orang laut. The name orang laut refers to the people of the sea.
