Woodlands region is one of the major residential planning areas based in Singapore. It is squarely located in the Northern part of Singapore. The city is bordered by Malaysia’s southern city known as Johor Bahru. Woodland is originally the major center for the Northern part of Singapore. The region borders Sembawang from the Eastern side, Sungei kadut to the Western, Mandai to the South and finally Johor Bahru to the north. The region has modern woodlands which are properly structured. The traditional woodlands was made up of villages as well as squatters. The residents mainly got their daily bread working as small scale shopkeepers. Others engaged in vegetable farming that took place in Marsling Causeway. The community found other alternative sources of income working at the rubber plantations as well as poultry farms.
The year 1972 saw the region begin to experience some changes in terms of modernization. This was seen as modern buildings started coming up in the northern side Marsling. In the year 1981, major development of woodlands began to take effect in this region. The development continued up to 1985. This saw the completion of Marsling estate. The neighboring estates were competed later in the year 1987. Back in the year 1998, a major expansion process into Innova began. The process continued up to the year 2002. The process saw development of a block named 5xx take place. The expansion was executed in parallel with the woodland’s one which started in the year 1999 up to 2004. The recent past has seen major developments come up. This includes major buildings, government’s projects as well as industries. Modern residential houses have also been built in the region.
