Yishun is a residential planning region in Singapore. It is home for many residential as well as industrial estates. The region was once known as Nee soon. The region is geographically located in the northern east of Singapore. On the northern side, simpang as well as Sembawang borders this great region. The central water catchment borders the city from the southern west while Mandai region is located to its western side. The east side of the region has Sengkang region bordering it. The region is home for many Chinese tycoons with major investments there. From the history books, Yishun was once dominated by rubber and pineapple plantations. The plantations were owned by one Lim Nee soon who was a famous rich man. His wealth spread across many parts of the region. A big number of local residents made their fortune working in Mr. Nee’s plantations. Besides his plantation’s wealth, Mr. Nee added up by being a banker, a contractor as well as a general commission’s agent.
With all the wealth he had accumulated, Mr. Nee was one of the greatest industrialists. Having earned a great name in this region, the region ended up being named after him. Yishun is his other official name. Sembawang was pioneered by great investors among them being Mr. Yishun Nee Soon. Between the year 1913 and 1921, Mr. Nee served on the rural board. He was honored and appointed as the justice of peace. Projects aimed at developing Yishun region begun rolling out in the year 1976. This is when the first HBD building was setup right at the Chong Pang shopping center. This acted as a platform for other major buildings to come up. Comparing, the past and the current development condition, it is clear that the region has come along way and still promising. The region is simply a modern city.
