Types of bathroom locks
Throughout the years there have been many new innovations in mechanisms and this resulted in many types of locks. An individual can choose from any of the locks available in the market according to their preferences. They can make their decisions based on privacy, security, designs, etc levels. Even the repair process of different locks differ. Some types of bathroom locks are as follows:-
- Slide locks: Slide locks are the most common and basic locks used for bathrooms. They are simple locks which have a manual sliding bolt. They are affordable and convenient but they don’t offer much security. They need constant maintenance and replacements as well.
- Knob locks: These locks are seen in almost every household. They work in a very simple way, you just have to twist the knob to unlock the door. But this isn’t a very secure option. To make it more foolproof, it is advised to install an additional deadbolt in the mix.
- Deadbolts: Deadbolts are a very nice choice if your preferences are security and privacy. These locks usually are paired with different locks like knob locks, handle locks, etc since these locks just close the door but not lock them.
- Handleset locks: These locks are widely used in all neighborhoods. As mentioned in their name, they are in the shape of a handle and also have a key slot in the shape of a circle. They are quite attractive in designs and can be customised into various colours. They are paired with spring bolts or deadbolts.
- Thumb turn locks: These locks are also quite simple. They have a latch which can be shifted with a simple twist to different sides to lock and unlock the door. They are very basic but don’t provide security.
- Coin locks: These are used in public washrooms and commercial buildings. This lock requires an actual coin to be inserted in the slot provided. After it’s inserted, the mechanism keeps the door locked until you’re done and out of the bathroom after shutting the door.
Bathroom lock repairs can be needed in many scenarios. A door can be damaged because of moisture from hot showers or direct contact with water. This can cause them to rot and get misaligned and cause issues with the locks. The locks can be clogged with dirt and debris which can block the latch’s movements. Improper installation can also be the cause of non functioning locks because the striker and the latch need to be in the proper position to work.
